The Army in the Political System

Pages 49-55 | Published online: 08 Dec 2014

Abstract

The army is one of the most important elements of any state. I would add to this that the army traditionally is its conservative element. And I stress, this is any army—ours, the Bundeswehr, the American. This is natural: if the army becomes a debating club, it is no longer an army. There is probably some sort of relationship based on natural law: the more conservative, the more stable.
