Abstract
In our first article we acquainted the reader with general statistics on increased crime during the last two decades. The criminal backdrop cannot, of course, be uniform throughout such an enormous country, if only because of dissimilarities in geographical, social, ethnic, and even traditional parameters. It is not possible to give a picture of each region. Nonetheless, Izvestia correspondents, through their reports, provide an idea of where things are happening. These reports do not have a systematic character. Rather, they are separate episodes and observations. However, certain general patterns can be seen in this kaleidoscope, and these reinforce our overall conclusions.
