Corruption, Criminalization, Kleptocracy

"Transition Phase"? Dead-End Branch? Foundational Structures?

Pages 5-35 | Published online: 08 Dec 2014

Abstract

Only war has a longer history than corruption. The official bribe taker (scribe), the highway robber (thief), the merchant, and the priest are the principal figures mentioned alongside warriors (knights) in folktales over the course of two to four millennia. Corruption figured even in King Hammurabi's code.
