Abstract
Russian society has always reacted strongly to Balkan events. This is both for political reasons and because of its ethnic and religious affinity with many peoples of the Balkan Peninsula. Specifically, the history of Russo-Serbian and Russo-Montenegrin social contacts is several centuries old. It is amazing that the Russian public has reacted almost exactly the same way to Balkan crises in quite disparate historical periods.
