Abstract
Because we are inundated with information, we do not read our colleagues' works diligently enough. But some books fall into a special category: as a rule, these are books that develop an integrated theory, provoking genuine interest as well as the most heated criticism. This category of books includes Aleksei Arbatov's Security: The Russian Choice [Bezopasnost': rossiiskii vybor (Moscow, EPItsentr, 1999), 528 pp.], which in a way sums up a fairly significant part of his life and of his scientific and political activity.
