Abstract
Significant wave heights obtained from GEOSAT satellite are compared with data from a wave buoy and voluntary observing ships. A versatile and interactive data base of altimeter wave data was created to handle large quantities of satellite information. The data base is used to generate seasonal and annual spatial distributions of significant wave height in the southern Atlantic and Indian oceans.
