Tissue Progesterone Assay by Means of Competitive Protein Binding

Pages 117-120 | Received 09 Sep 1971, Published online: 09 Jul 2009

Abstract

An assay technique is described which permits the estimation of nanogram amounts of progesterone in tissues. After primary extraction of the tissue homogenate, the extract is purified by means of thin layer and column chromatography. Progesterone is then measured by competitive protein binding. With this technique it is possible to determine the amount of progesterone in less than 1 gram of myometrial or endometrial tissue.
