Abstract

Psychosomatic medicine—and thus psychosomatic gynaecology—is presented as an approach to be used by doctors when meeting the patient. At the same time it is a method, a technique, trying to elucidate the mechanisms in the most complicated interplay between the psychological, somatic and social “parts of the whole”. Some diagnostic methods which can be used in this connection are discussed. The basic aim of the paper is to show the necessity and the possibility for the gynaecologist to use new technique from the psychodiagnostic field in his daily practice in order to achieve a better understanding of his patienťs complaints and needs.
