Abstract
The question as to the significance of changes in the retina caused by otogenie intraeranial complication may still be said to be an open one, in spite of the many researches that have dealt with it, specially in the first decade of this century, when Hansen (Arch. f. Ohrenh. Bd. 53, 1901), Körner (Deutsches Arch. f. klin. Med. Bd. 73, 1903), Tenzer (Arch. f. Ohrenh. Bd. 63, 1904), Espenschied (Arch. f. Ohrenh. Bd. 63, 1904), Langworth (Ref. Zentralbl. f. Ohrenh. 1907). Friedenberg (Arch. f. Ohrenh. Bd. 74, 1907) and others, in going over their clinical material tried to find out the frequency with which neuritis optica1 arises in these maladies, and to what conclusions it is possible to arrive with regard to diagnosis and prognosis from the presence of this symptom.
