The Function of the Stapedius Muscle: Sound and colour film

Abstract

Thanks to the new high-speed colour films it has been possible to demonstrate in 16 mm colour the reflex-movement of the stapedius muscle of a human subject suffering from chronic otitis media with destruction of the ossicular chain. It is shown that growing intensity of the primay sound results in stronger contraction of the stapedius muscle.
