Abstract

The material comprises 110 children with totally 158 otitic ears. During the same period the investigation was organized in two sections:

1. 99 otitic ears (30 under one year and 69 over one year old) treated with sodium penicillin G intramuscularly.

2. 59 otitic ears (13 under one year and 46 over one year) treated with potassium penicillin V (Fenoxcilline) orally.

The results in each section are indicated by the mean discharging time per otitic ear and by the number of relapses and of cases where the drug had no effect or where there were undesirable side effects.

The results showed average discharging time of both sections being equal 52 days, whereas cases not cured by the oral administration of penicillin were much more frequent than in the section treated with sodium penicillin intramuscularly.

The number of relapses were almost equal in the two sections, expressed in per cent. Undesirable side-effects in both drugs were negligible.
