Abstract

In connection with or after tracheotomy mediastinal and subcutaneous emphysema may arise, as may also pneumothorax, if one has an inspiratory stridor. This, and the fatigue occasioned by the increased respiratory work, may lead to respiratory insufficiency which, as is illustrated by two cases, can be successfully treated with the help of a respirator.
