Abstract
The history of otosclerosis surgery and its road to the modern foot-plate procedure is briefly described. 100 cases of one-year results after fenestration of the oval window with vein-graft and polyethylene implant ad modum Shea are presented. 94 of these 100 cases reached and remained within 10 db of the preoperative bone-conduction level. The 6 unsuccessful cases are briefly analyzed and some reasons for their failure are advanced.
