&
Pages 180-183 | Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

During the postoperative course following stapediolysis the writers have investigated the clinically demonstrable vestibular disturbances and show that a labyrinthine irritation occurs after stapediolysis according to the direct method but that, as a rule, there is restitution of the vestibular function after one week.

Numerous investigators have reported the results obtained with stapediolysis, and it would seem that the postoperative audiologic course has been thoroughly clarified. On the other hand, there have been no consistent clinical investigations of the reaction of the vestibular part of the labyrinth. The purpose of the present study has been to investigate the clinical vestibular reaction during the postoperative phase after stapediolysis.
