Abstract

Bronchoscopy was made under general orotracheal anesthesia by introducing into the trachea a cuffed No. 4 or 5 Magill endotracheal tube followed by the bronchoscope. Intermittent positive pressure respiration with nitrous oxide and oxygen was used. The technique ensured good operating conditions without time limit. PCO2 in arterialized capillary blood was analysed in seven patients during the procedure; in some samples there was a minor rise in CO2 tension.
