Abstract
A modification of the Shea polyethylene prothesis is presented. Its special feature is a sort of bed wherein the long process of the incus lies in a way which prevents sharp pressure on this bone and, at the same time, provides stability. It is surmised that this special feature will minimise aseptic necrosis of the incudal long process, which is a long-term complication encountered in stapedectomies. Early results equal those obtained with other prosthetic forms.
