Abstract

On the basis of a retrospective study of a material consisting of 728 patients undergoing percutaneous cerebral angiography, laryngeal complications are reported. Such complications were found in a total of 13 patients, 3 of whom had severe laryngeal oedema. Furthermore, recurrent paralysis, hoarseness, suggilations of the larynx and tracheal dislocation because of large neck haematomas were found. Possible causes of the laryngeal oedema are discussed. The hypothesis is advanced that the laryngeal oedema is caused by obstruction of the venous flow from the neck because of large neck haematomas.
