Abstract
A light microscopic study of 237 temporal bones revealed 27 cases of definite histological otosclerosis. The incidence, localization, activity, and number of otosclerotic foci are reported. The present material differs from previous similar studies of temporal bones in showing the incidence to be highest in the age range 68–80 years and the activity in the otosclerotic foci to bear no relation to age. Furthermore, the number of otosclerotic foci was largest in elderly persons.
