Inter-Sensory Facilitation and the Diagnosis of Functional Hearing Loss

Abstract

This paper describes the equipment developed to study inter-sensory facilitation in audiometric testing. Four experiments are reported which seem to lead to the conclusion that the technique is a viable method for assisting in the diagnosis of functional hearing loss. These also suggest that arousal leading to increased expectancy is more likely to explain the effect than a Broadbentian chanelling theory.
