Otosclerosis of the Oval Window Niche and the Choice of Stapes Surgery: A Human Temporal Bone Study

Pages 44-54 | Received 01 Jul 1970, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The localization and extent of the oto-sclerotic foci in the oval window niche were studied in 66 human temporal bone specimens. The bones were cut in serial sections of 20 microns. According to the size of the otosclerotic focus and the degree of stapes fixation, the material is divided into three groups. The possibility of stapes surgery in each group is discussed.
