Psychosomatic Aspects of Menibre's Disease

Abstract

It has been known by medical authorities for many years that patients who suffer from Menière's disease are subject to attacks of anxiety and elevated emotional tensions. This paper attempts to illustrate the possibility that the onset of Menière's symptoms can be linked to life stress situations. In the past thirty-five years, several carefully controlled studies have been made attempting to point out a relationship between obvious psychological abnormalities and physiological problems related to Meniere's disease. It is also shown that, in many cases, the course of the disease can be reversed through psychotherapy. With the evidence presented, it is obvious that the psychological implications of Menière's disease should not be ignored.
