Experimental Pollinosis: An Electron Microscopic Study

Pages 121-133 | Received 20 Sep 1970, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The author has studied chronologically with the electron microscope the cellular alterations that follow the penetration of the pollen (Betula alba) into a sensitized mucosa. The study has been done between one hour and twenty seven days. A precise sequence of different cell “waves” going from the eosinophil to the plasmocyte is described and as a conclusion a theory of the immunological autonomy of the nasal mucosa is proposed.
