Abstract

A double-blind technique was used to evaluate the effect of Triamcinolone Acetonide on ninety-seven severe cases of well-defined allergic and vasomotor rhinitis. a placebo or 40 mg of the long-acting steroid was injected intramuscularly. the evaluation of the effect was made after 10 days. Patients who were not improved then received another injection, always of Triamcinolone Acetonide. the steroid had a statistically significant effect on the nasal symptoms both in patients with allergic and vasomotor rhinitis, particularly apparent in the former. the need for great care in prescribing such a potent drug, particularly in the more or less continuously severe vasomotor cases, is emphasized.
