Abstract
92 367 persons in all of Denmark applied for hearing rehabilitation in a 5-year-period, and of those 7 108 (7.7%) were registered under the diagnosis “professional noise-induced hearing loss”, i.e. an incidence of about 1 400 per year, or 28 per 100 000. 40% were below 65 years of age, and only 6% were women. There are estimated to be 6 000 industrial works employing about 50 000 persons at present with a continual noise level of more than 90 dB (A). A hearing conservation program has been proposed to The Ministry of Work.
