Youth suicide: A public health problem?

Pages 186-187 | Published online: 06 Jul 2009

Abstract

There are two broad parameters which need to be addressed in developing programmes to prevent suicide. The first is the role of psychiatric illnesses and the second is the contextual significance of interpersonal and family discord. Unless both these areas are addressed simultaneously, it is unlikely that inroads can be made into the youth suicide rates in Australia [2,3].
