Problems in Electric Response Audiometry (ERA) During Sedation

Pages 129-136 | Published online: 07 Jul 2009

Abstract

(1) On the basis of the answers to a questionnaire on the sedation for electric response audiometry, the author discussed several sedatives actually used in Japan. Triciofos is most frequently used, followed by chloral hydrate and barbiturates. On the other hand, hydroxyzine, diazepam and nitrazepam are seldom used in Japan.

(2) The detectability of the cortical evoked potential of children during sleep was studied with various signal-to-noise ratios. Even with trained eyes, a false positive decision was observed in about 10 to 33% of the judgements. Almost 100% detection of the response was achieved when the averaged amplitude of the response reached about twice the level of the background activity.
