Abstract
Shiver audiometry of the guinea pig combined with morphological study of the spiral (Corti's) organ (1-3° turns) has proved useful in the identification of possible ototoxic properties of drugs, as experimental tests with well-known ototoxic drugs have demonstrated. The method, therefore, could be recommended for preliminary studies of drugs before their introduction into human therapy, for this is certainly the most rational way of avoiding many cases of toxic deafness
