Abstract

A new method of computerized classification of pure-tone audiometric data obtained from the screening of persons exposed to noise in presented. The technique features a new screening form, adapted for optical scanning, which cane easily be completed by non-specialist examiners

The computer is programmed to condense the information from each individual into a two-digit number. The first digit describes the hearing loss in the right and the second in the left ear. The program makes it possible to present any desired aspect of the material automatically, rapidly and at a very low cost

The technique is being tested in Sweden. Computerized results of the field screening of some 3 000 workers employed in the building industry are presented and discussed
