Frequency Patterns in Cochlear, Brainstem, and Cerebral Lesions: Reconnaissance mélodique dans les lésions cochléaires, bulbaires et corticales

Abstract

Three groups of patients with different pathologies (cerebral, brainstem, and cochlear lesions) were tested and compared for performance on frequency patterns. Results indicated that the frequency pattern test was highly sensitive to cerebral lesions (83%), but not as sensitive to brainstem lesions (45%). There was very little overlap between results of subjects with cochlear hearing loss and those with cerebral lesions. The specificity of frequency patterns for detecting cerebral lesions (the number of true negative results divided by the number of cochlear subjects) was 88.2%.

Trois groupes de patients présentant différentes pathologies (cochléaires, bulbaires et corticales) ont été examinés et comparés au niveau de leur performance dans la reconnaissance mélodique. Les résultats indiquent que le test de reconnaissance mélodique était hautement sensible dans les lésions corticales (83%) mais moins sensible pour les lésions du tronc cérébral (45%). Il y avait peu de chevauchement entre les résultats des sujets présentant des lésions cochléaires ou cérébrales. La spécificité du test de reconnaissance mélodique dans la détection des lésions cérébrales (résultat négatif vrai divisé par le nombre de sujets cochléaires) était de 88,2%.
