Auditory Bra in stem Responses from Human Adults and Infants: Influence of Stimulus Onset: Réponses évoqués du tronc cérébral chez l'adulte et chez 1'enfant: Influence du temps de montée du stimulus

Abstract

Auditory brainstem responses were recorded from adults and 3-month-old infants in response to gated noise bursts of variable rise/fall time. Stimuli were presented at 50 dB nHL for rise/fall times of 0, 1,2.5, and 5 ms. Acoustic spectra of noise-burst stimuli were identical for all rise/fall conditions. Results show that increases in stimulus rise time were accompanied by increased latency and decreased amplitude of ABR wave V recorded from both adult and infant subjects. Constant differences between adult and infant data were observed across rise/fall conditions for both latency and amplitude values. Adult and infant subjects do not differentially process stimulus onset.

Les réponses auditives évoquées du tronc cérébral ont été enregistrées chez des adultes normaux et des enfants (aˇgés de 3 mois) pour des sons brefs. Les stimulations ont été présentées à 50 dB nHL pour des temps d'établissement et d'extinction de 0, 1, 2,5 et 5 ms. Le spectre acoustique était constant pour chaque stimulus. La forme des réponses était quantifiée par la latence et l'amplitude de l'onde V. L'augmentation du temps d'établissement et d'extinction a accru la latence de l'onde V et a diminué son amplitude chez les adultes et les enfants. Les différences de latence et d'amplitude entre les adultes et les enfants étaient les měmes pour les différents temps d'établissement et d'extinction.
