Abstract
The present study investigated relationships between CT scan atrophy and neuropsychological test results in Alzheimer's disease. CT scans were obtained of 35 patients with Alzheimer's disease and of 17 normal subjects. Several measures of atrophy were taken, and the patients were administered a neuropsychological test battery. The two groups differed significantly on all atrophy measures. However, very few of the correlations between atrophy measures and neuropsychological test results were significant, arguing against simple brain-behavior relationships between CT scan atrophy and neuro-behavioral consequences of Alzheimer's disease. Possible reasons for this finding are discussed.
