Abstract

A case of bacteriaemia due to Vibrio fetus is described. The patient, a woman aged 41 years, had hypertension and chronic renal disease, and died following an exploratory laparotomy for abdominal pain. Although V. fetus had been isolated on two separate occasions from her blood, no evidence of disease caused by this organism was found at autopsy nor could the organism be found.
