Abstract
Frank Rees Magarey retired in 1977 after 25 years as Head of the Department of Pathology at the University of Sydney. He came to Sydney from a small Medical School in Cardiff to one with probably the largest number of students in the Commonwealth. He embarked upon this daunting task with great enthusiasm using the talents that had led to his appointment. During the 18 years since graduating in Adelaide he had become an inspiring teacher, an incisive and effective administrator and an experienced experimental and clinical pathologist, who evoked the confidence of his colleagues.
