Abstract

It has been outside the scope of this paper to give a general review of mass spectrometry. On the contrary we have wished to present the results of some of the examinations which must be performed when starting work with mass spectrometry by help of a new type of mass spectrometer.

The results presented indicate that the MS 3 spectrometer is a very efficient machine for routine analyses of nitrogen isotopes. The determinations of these isotopes can be carried out in short time and with great precision. In connection with the double collector method, some minor alterations of the apparatus are described which have increased the accuracy of the measurements considerably.
