A Method for the Determination of Amylase in Intestinal Content

Pages 145-151 | Received 30 Jun 1961, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

A method is described for the determination of amylase activity in intestinal content, using a 3,5-dinitrosalicylate reagent for the assay of the reducing groups liberated from starch.

A unit for amylase activity is defined, in accordance with recommendations for clinical and biochemical enzyme units recently made by the Joint Sub-Commission on Clinical Enzymes Units of the International Union of Biochemistry and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Numerical comparison of this unit is made with some amylase activity units perviously used utilizing the 3,5-dinitrosalicylate reagent, and with Lagerlöf's amylase activity unit.
