A Procoagulant from Human Postpartum Serum I. Assay and characterization

Pages 329-338 | Received 11 May 1967, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

A procoagulant from postpartum serum has been studied.

It is assayed in a two-stage thrombin generation system with partially purified clotting factors. The procoagulant promotes activation of prothrombin to thrombin under the influence of factors V, VII, and X. Phospholipid increases its activity.

The procoagulant has most of the characteristics of tissue thromboplastin (tissue extract).
