Pages 339-346 | Received 12 Sep 1967, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

A method is described for purification of a procoagulant from postpartum serum. The purification includes fractionation according to Cohn, precipitation with ammonium sulphate and high-speed centrifugation. The procoagulant is not present in normal serum. The purified procoagulant has several similarities to tissue thromboplastin. It is concluded to be a tissue thromboplastin derived from placental tissues during delivery.
