Abstract
The effect of an adrenergic beta-receptor blocking agent, propranolol, on ECG changes of organic origin has been studied. Marked electrocardiographical ST and T wave depressions occurred in five dogs, poisoned with thallium. These ECG changes, found together with myocardial damage demonstrated at histological examination, were not influenced by the adrenergic beta-blockade. In some dogs slight T wave changes were found before the poisoning. These were abolished during the blockade and the ECG changes were interpreted as sympathicotonic.
