Abstract

Furberg, C. Adrenergic Beta-receptor Blockade and the Relationships between Physical Working Capacity, Heart Volume, and the Total Amount of Hemoglobin. Scand. J. din. Lab. Invest. 19, 164–170, 1967. The relationships between physical working capacity, heart volume and the total amount of hemoglobin have been studied in 29 patients with various psychiatric diseases. Wide deviations from the regression lines were found for these relationships, indicating a varying degree of hyperkinetic circulation. During an adrenergic beta-receptor blockade the deviations from the regression lines decreased markedly. The regression lines and the residual standard deviations during the blockade were not statistically significantly different from those found earlier in healthy subjects. The difference between the regression coefficients and constants and the residual standard deviations for the above mentioned relationships were almost insignificant when comparing the men and women during the blockade.
