Abstract

Tibbling, G. A Routine Method for Micro-determination of Mannitol in Serum. Scand. J. clin. Lab. Invest. 22, 7-10, 1968. A simplified method for the determination of mannitol in serum is described. The method is based on oxidation of mannitol with periodic acid followed by colorimetric determination of the formaldehyde formed by the use of chromotropic acid. The interference of glucose and glycerol present in serum is generally negligible, except where a very high degree of specificity is required. The small sample volume (50 μl) required for analysis renders the method suitable for capillary blood sampling.
