Effect of Some Mėtabolic Inhibitors on the Adhesiveness of Human Leucocytes to Glass Beads

Pages 35-40 | Received 12 Mar 1969, Accepted 14 May 1969, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The effect of metabolic inhibitors on the leucocyte adhesiveness to glass beads was examined. Monoiodoacetate was the only inhibitor which depressed adhesiveness when used separately. By combining monoiodoacetate and antimycin or 2-deoxy-D-glucose and oligomycin, the adhesiveness of leucocytes was markedly depressed. This indicates that leucocyte adhesiveness is an energy-requiring process, deriving the energy from the glycolytic and the oxidative pathways
