Estimation of Plasma Renin Concentration Using Radioimmunoassay of Angiotensin II

Pages 291-300 | Received 24 Mar 1969, Accepted 26 Aug 1969, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Renin is measured by the rate of renin-substrate consumption with time. Renin-substrate is measured by conversion to angiotensin-II by excess of renin and converting enzyme. Characteristics: precisely determined angiotensinogen conc. during reaction, controlled converting enzyme activity, and eliminated influence of angiotensinases. The method, using 300 μl plasma, gives simultaneously renin concentration, renin activity, and renin-substrate concentration without chromatographic steps. Detection limit is 22 times lower than normal mean. Precision ± 6 %.
