In Vivo Effect of Reptilase on Fibrinogen Metabolism in Dogs

Pages 383-385 | Received 12 Jun 1969, Accepted 12 Sep 1969, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The elimination of 125I-labelled fibrinogen was followed in dogs after infusion of Reptilase R. Platelet count, fibrinogen concentration and radioactivity in fibrinogen, plasma, and serum were determined. Defibrination was achieved within 4–5 hours. The platelet count was moderately diminished. An increase in the serum radioactivity after the infusion indicated that the induced intravascular coagulation gave rise to a secondary fibrinolytic process. Reptilase infusion after heparinization and the effects of Trasylol and epsilon-aminocaproic acid on the secondary fibrinolysis were also studied.
