Abstract

A distorted band pattern after agarose-gel electrophoresis of a sample of pleural fluid was observed following staining for proteins, glycoproteins, and lactate-dehydrogenase isoenzymes. Normal results were obtained when the material had been treated with testicular hyaluronidase. Hyaluronate could be demonstrated after but not before the hyaluronidase treatment.
