Abstract
A semi-automatic centrifuge (SORVALL® CW-1) for washing red cells for Coombs' test has been tested. The maker's instructions were slightly modi fied, the tubes being shaken manually after addition of Coombs' serum. The centrifuge is extremely quiet in operation. The complete washing proce dure took approximately 3 minutes less to perform than our manual proce dure. Reproducibility and sensitivity are as good as or slightly better than by using our manual technique. The loss of red cells is of the same magnitude.
