Simplified Mobile Equipment for ¹³³Xe-Radiospirometry

Abstract

Radiospirometry with ¹³³Xenon is a useful method for the study of regional lung function. A modified equipment is described which is light and mobile and can be used on subjects in any body position, thereby making possible studies during and after operations as well as under varying physiological conditions. The apparatus only uses four probes, which are placed either in front of or behind the subject. The information obtained thus comes mainly from the parts of the lungs closest to the detectors, which has both ad vantages and disadvantages. Some applications in clinic and research are discussed.
