Circulatory Responses to Arm Exercise in Different Work Positions

Pages 293-297 | Received 18 Jan 1971, Accepted 25 Mar 1971, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

The circulatory response during painting at bench level in a standing position, in a kneeling position with one knee on the floor, while standing with the body tilted forward, and during painting on the ceiling was studied in 9 subjects and compared to the circulatory response during leg exercise. By far the most strenuous working position is standing with the arms raised above the head. The circulatory response to painting with the body tilted forward is about the same as to cycling.
