Thrombin-Induced Vasoconstriction in the Pulmonary Circulation

Pages 321-329 | Received 18 Jan 1971, Accepted 18 Mar 1971, Published online: 08 Jul 2009

Abstract

Supernatants from thrombin-treated cell suspensions acted as vasoconstrictors on isolated perfused dog lung lobes. The vasoconstriction was due to serotonin released from the platelets. Thrombin caused an increase of pulmonary vascular resistance in vivo. This increase was markedly reduced by the serotonin antagonist methysergide.
