Abstract
Serum levels of 13 plasma proteins and the plasma volumes were estimated in 10 patients with sickle cell anemia (SCA) and in 6 sexually impotent males (SIM) before and during treatment with high-dose androgens. In both groups an increase was seen for α1-antitrypsin and orosomucoid. In the SCA group a marked increase was found for hemopexin. Haptoglobin could be demonstrated in some samples during treatment. In the SIM group hemopexin did not change but haptoglobin increased. On androgens plasma volume decreased in the SCA and increased in the SIM group.
