Abstract
Serum α1-antitrypsin mass concentrations were estimated in 664 Finnish young males by means of single radial immunodiffusion techniques. The distribution was symmetrical with a mean of 2.70 g/1 and a standard deviation of 0.545 g/1. Sera containing low concentrations were re-analyzed by antigen-antibody-crossed electrophoresis. One serum contained very low levels of α1-antitrypsin and 34 moderately lowered concentrations corresponding to values seen in Pi-phenotypes ZZ and MZ, respectively. The incidence of serum α1-antitrypsin deficiency seems to be similar to that found in Scandinavian populations.
